Our company
New River Electrical is nationwide, 100% employee-owned electrical contractor, dedicated to exceeding the high voltage construction and maintenance needs of our electrical utility and industrial customers.

Position Summary
The Controller is the finance business partner to New River Electrical’s management and operations team. The Controller ensures all financial reporting requirements are met in accordance with US GAAP and supports management in making effective business decisions through accurate, relevant, and timely business and financial reporting and analysis. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Finance / Controlling Responsibilities:

  • Ensure New River Electrical’s financial reporting is timely and accurate in accordance with US generally accepted accounting principles and any relevant local regulations.
  • Analyze and review financial performance providing explanations and insights into variations to budgets.
  • Ensure that the proper financial, commercial and risk management KPI’s are being measured by standard and focused scorecards and reports.
  • Lead the provision of information, analysis and insights and provide decision support and business partnership to the management and operations teams.
  • Mentor, manage, evaluate, and develop a high-performing Accounting team. Areas of oversight include accounting operations - accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Work with external auditors and provide required information for the annual audit.

Financial Control and Risk Management

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Review balance sheet and income statement monthly with appropriate reconciliations.
  • Drive strong cost control and use insightful analysis to make efficiency recommendations to the management team. Drive improved net working capital efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements related to sales, use, and payroll taxation.
  • Maintain and reconcile capital assets of New River Electrical.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and dashboards.
  • Maintain a strong financial analysis foundation, creating forecasts and models.
  • Responsible for report writing, including Crystal Reports, Spreadsheet Server, Power BI.
  • Supervise front desk receptionist and manage backup to cover for receptionist’s absences.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration is preferred.
  • CPA certification is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated drive for continuous improvement and knowledge in field of expertise, as well as willingness to learn and embrace technology.
  • 5 - 10 years of relevant work experience with controlling experience.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft products including creating and using complex spreadsheets in Excel.
  • Ability to navigate and understand database complexities.
  • Proficient in data mining.
  • Proficient in ERP accounting systems, Vista preferred.
  • Experienced business partner, skilled in building trust and inspiring others.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong demonstration of written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Expertise in prioritizing workload and recognizing matters requiring prompt attention.

Travel
Limited travel is anticipated with this role.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is required to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
